FAQ
Weather intelligence, situational awareness, and Signal4D — answered.
Answers to common questions about weather intelligence, situational awareness, and how Signal4D fuses weather and hazard data with the assets you operate.
- What is a weather intelligence platform?
- A weather intelligence platform fuses global weather and environmental data with an organization's own assets and operations to monitor, predict, and alert on the conditions that create operational risk. Rather than just reporting the forecast, it tells a specific team what the weather means for their specific infrastructure, routes, and people. Signal4D adds asset fusion and compound, multi-source alerting on top of best-of-breed weather data.
- What does Signal4D do?
- Signal4D is a weather intelligence and geospatial situational-awareness company. It fuses the world’s leading weather and environmental data with the infrastructure, assets, and personnel an organization operates — including moving assets such as fleets, vehicles, vessels, and aircraft — then monitors, predicts, and alerts on the conditions that threaten operations and missions. Its application is OmniWatch.
- How is Signal4D different from a weather API or a weather app?
- A weather API returns data and a consumer weather app shows a forecast. Signal4D overlays weather and hazard data onto the exact infrastructure, routes, and moving assets a customer operates, computes the impact down to the specific segment and time, and fires a single high-confidence alert only when the conditions that matter actually align — so teams get the signal, not the noise.
- What is a common operating picture (COP)?
- A common operating picture is a single, shared, role-based view of a situation that everyone from the operations center to the field sees at once. Signal4D delivers a COP that combines live weather and environmental hazards with an organization’s own assets on one interactive map, dashboard, and alerting stream.
- What data sources does Signal4D fuse?
- Signal4D ingests and harmonizes best-of-breed global sources: weather models, local stations and surface observations; continental, regional and single-site radar; global lightning strikes and density; storm tracks, cells and severe-storm prediction; satellite hot spots, fire and agency fire data; and government weather, hail, flood and air-quality alerts.
- Can Signal4D track moving assets in real time?
- Yes. Open APIs ingest moving assets updated live by telemetry — fleets, vehicles, vessels, aircraft, drones and personnel — alongside static assets like plants, substations, power lines and pipelines, so the operating picture reflects what an organization actually operates and where it is right now.
- Which industries use Signal4D?
- Signal4D is used across defense and national security, government and public safety, energy and utilities, aviation and airspace, maritime and ports, logistics and supply chain, forestry and large landowners, and insurance and reinsurance — the same data fusion, asset modeling and alerting configured to each domain.
- How quickly can Signal4D be deployed?
- Signal4D is built for rapid deployment and integration — measured in hours and days rather than months — with configurable thresholds, layers and views, and open APIs that fit into the GIS, asset-lifecycle and fleet-telemetry systems an organization already runs.
- Does Signal4D only monitor weather?
- No. Weather is one hazard among many. Signal4D monitors any event that can affect the assets an organization operates — severe weather, lightning, wildfire and satellite hot spots, government watches and warnings, live air traffic, ground traffic incidents, and drone activity — and alerts when an event intersects your infrastructure, fleets, or people.
- Can I put my own assets into Signal4D?
- Yes — that is the core of the platform. You bring the assets you operate: plants, substations, power lines, pipelines, routes, land, facilities, and the moving assets updated by live telemetry — fleets, vehicles, vessels, aircraft, drones and personnel. Signal4D watches the environment around each one and alerts you to the events that affect it.
- Does Signal4D offer an API for developers?
- Yes. Signal4D is API-first: developers can ingest assets as points, routes and areas, pull global weather and hazard data, configure thresholds and alerts, receive real-time events via webhooks, or embed OmniWatch in their own product. See the developer portal at signal4d.com/developers.
- What is compound alerting?
- Compound alerting combines multiple independent risk signals — for example red-flag fire weather, a lightning strike, and a satellite hot spot — into a single high-confidence alert that fires only when the conditions that matter actually align. It cuts alert fatigue so teams get the signal, not the noise.
